1 Service Battalion (1 Svc Bn) (active 1 September 1968 – Present) provides close and general support to units throughout Land Force Western Area. 1 Svc Bn is comprised of a battalion headquarters and four functional companies. Transportation Company includes a headquarters, a resource management cell, two transport platoons and a movements platoon. Supply Company includes a headquarters, Garrison Support Services, a Decontamination Platoon and Stocks Platoon. Maintenance Company includes a headquarters with a control office, an Artisan Platoon and Vehicle Platoon. Administration Company includes a headquarters, a risk management cell, Padre, a resource management cell, Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant, Messing Section, Transport Section, Maintenance Section and Signals Troop. Each of the functional companies provides institutional Army support to its dependencies. From these functional companies, Forward Support Groups (FSGs) are force generated to support operations domestically or internationally. 1 Svc Bn is a large and robust force generation Combat Service Support unit capable of providing two FSGs in support of operations at any given time.
