Whiting, Robert T.

Robert T. Whiting is the grandson of Frank Herbert Whiting who was born in 1857 at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Frank Whiting studied Civil Engineering at Ames College in Iowa. Frank, his wife Millah and their eight children moved to Skagway, Alaska in 1898 when he was appointed Division Superintendent of the White Pass and Yukon Route (WP&YR) railroad. The family returned to the lower forty-eight by 1903 and Mr. Whiting remained involved in large engineering projects throughout his career. Frank Herbert Whiting died in Seattle in 1936. Robert is the son of their last child, James David, born in 1896.

MacDougall, Rod

Rod MacDougall lived with his family in Whitehorse from May 1957 to January 1962. His father, Roderic C. MacDougall, was the Manager of the Unemployment Insurance Office in Whitehorse. Rod MacDougall Sr. and his wife Janet had three sons named Alan, Keith and Rod, and they were among the first residents of the Riverdale housing subdivision.

Ashbough, Roderick Leander, d. 1910

Roderick Leander Ashbough was a lawyer in Winnipeg, Manitoba before he moved to Dawson City ca. 1899. In Dawson he became a member of the bar on January 19, 1900, and set up a law practice, dealing mainly with the sale and rights of mineral claims. On June 28, 1909 Ashbough was elected as a Conservative member representing the Bonanza District to the first wholly elected Yukon Council. He was dean of the Dawson Bar Association in 1910. Ashbough died at his house on Harper St., Dawson on December 26, 1910. His funeral was held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.

MacDonald, Roderick

Roderick MacDonald was manager of the North America Transportation and Trading Company (N.A.T.&T.Co.) store in Bonanza from 1900-1902/04, and then became manager of the Dawson City store until 1908 when he was transferred to the Eagle, Alaska store. He later managed the Northern Commercial Co. (N.C.Co.) store at Forty Mile from July 1912 to July 1915 when the post closed.

Greenslade, Ronald Lawton, 1913-1984

Ronald Greenslade was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan on May 18, 1913. He joined the Canadian Army in 1933 and was transferred to Whitehorse in 1935 with the NWT and Yukon Radio System. He married Doris Harbottle in Whitehorse. In 1953, Ronald and Doris, and their seven children moved to Wainwright, Alberta because Ron was promoted to Commissioned Officer. In 1956 they moved to Edmonton, and then were transferred again in 1960 to Vancouver. Ron retired from the Armed Forces in 1966 and joined a surveying company in Vancouver until his retirement in 1978. He was active in the Masonic Lodge and the Vancouver Yukoner's Association. Ronald died in 1984 and Doris died in 1985.

Houghtaling, Ross, 19-- -

Ross Houghtaling was born in the United States, but probably took Canadian citizenship. He had a brother Rex, and a friend, John Peck who became like a member of the family. In 1992, when he donated to Yukon Archives he was living in Wawata, Saskatchewan.

Ross River Dena Council

The people of the Ross River Dena Council are known as the Kaska and their language is a member of the Athapaskan language family. The Ross River Dena Council is affiliated with the Kaska Tribal Council, which connects the people to their close Kaska relations in northern British Columbia and to the Liard First Nation. The Kaska of Ross River are also closely connected and related to their neighbors in Fort Norman, N.W.T., who make frequent visits to cultural events held at Coffee Lake, a traditional gathering area of the Kaska. In April 1999, there were 415 registered members of the Ross River First Nation. About 100 members live outside the community.
