Biographical history
Alex Peter Harshenin was born in Brilliant, B.C. He attended the University of British Columbia where he received his B.A. (1955) and M.A. (1960). Harshenin joined UBC's Department of Slavonic Studies in 1960 and received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1974. He continued with the department until his death in 1977. He specialized in Doukhobor dialect, theoretical linguistics and Russian language.

The fonds consists of sixty-three oral history tapes, card indexes, notebooks and written notes, and published materials relating to Harshenin's research into the Doukhobor language and dialect.
