Biographical history
Alexander Cross "Sandy" Roberts worked at the Sidney depot of the Victoria and Sidney Railway from 1902 to 1904. In 1904, he moved to Hedley, where he was employed at the Nickel Plate Mine and then returned to Victoria to work for the Giant Powder Company. Next he joined the real estate division of Leeming Brothers, from whom he later bought the freighters Cascade and Forager. With these two ships, he entered into the shipping business. He married Beatrice Steele. He died in Victoria at the age of 90.
Custodial history
Alexander Roberts gave his glass plate negatives to grandson-in-law Richard W. Shea in about 1973, and the latter loaned prints he made from these plates to the archives for copying in September 1979.

The fonds consists of photographs showing the Roberts family, various Victoria scenes, and the Nickel Plate Mine at Hedley, B.C.
