Biographical history
Allan T. Sheppard was born in Prince Rupert on April 1, 1935 to Winifred "Win" Taylor and Bartholomew "Bert" Sheppard. Bert left Newfoundland in 1908 and moved to Seattle, Washington where he worked as a fisherman. Win left Newfoundland in 1918 and moved to Montreal where she met Bert in 1920. In 1921, they moved to Prince Rupert and were married on December 30 of that year. The couple had three children: Neil, Allan, Marion.
Allan attended King Edward Elementary and graduated from Booth Memorial High School in 1953. He married Barbara Stalker on January 19, 1955, settled in Port Edward in 1957, and had three children Doug, Don, and Christine. Allan worked in the fishing industry all of his life, first fishing with his father during high school, working at Nelson Bros. Fisheries/B.C. Packers plant in Port Edward, Manager of the B.C. Packers Cold Storage Plant at Seal Cove and finally as owner/manager of Port Edward Marine Services.
He was instrumental in the incorporation of Port Edward in 1966 and was Mayor of that community until 1986 when he retired. He was an honourary member of the Port Edward Volunteer Fire Department, founder and life member of the North Pacific Cannery Village Museum, a life member of the Prince Rupert Kinsmen Club, Chairman of the Prince Rupert Corporation from 1985-1990, active member of the Prince Rupert Rotary Club, Prince Rupert District & Chamber of Commerce and President of the Chamber 1996 and 1997. He was actively involved in the Prince Rupert Airport Society, the Northcoast Oil & Gas Task Force, Oldfield Creek Fish Hatchery, Northcoast Fisheries Renewal of B.C., Community Fisheries on the Chamber Fisheries Committee. He was a Director of the Skeena-Queen Charlotte Regional District from 1968 to 1986, a former director of Ridley Terminals Inc., and a former Canadian Commissioner of the International Pacific Halibut Commission.
He received the Community Booster Award by the Prince Rupert & District Chamber of Commerce in 1998, the Alex Hunter Good Citizenship Award by the Prince Rupert Daily News, and was presented a plaque in recognition of his significant contribution to the City of Prince Rupert and the Prince Rupert Airport Society. He was also an active bowler and member of the Bowling Association. Allan died at home in Port Edward on March 21, 2002.

Scope and content
The fonds consists of textual records, photographs, negatives, and maps that Sheppard received while working for companies or serving on boards and volunteering in service clubs. It also includes two day-minders from D.W. Souter and early photographs of Claxton and Kildonan Canneries early 1900s.
