Biographical history

Ann E. Pillman was born on the 19 January 189?, the oldest child of James and Florence (Cotton) Pillman of Traveler's Rest. Ann was the first student in the Prince County Hospital School of Nursing in 1912. Ann nursed at the Dalton Sanatorium and met her first husband, William Houston, there who died a few years later, after which she married Wesley Paynton. Ann Pillman was later the matron at Falconwood Hospital.

The collection consists of thirty-five photographs from the photo album of Ann Pillman. Included in this collection are photographs of the Dalton Sanatorium and Falconwood Hospital, including images of her husband William Houston, as well as of nurses and soldiers, most of whom are unidentified.
