Biographical history
Annunciation School opened on August 28, 1916 with 64 pupils in the parochial hall on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Fulton Street. Four nuns from the Sisters of St. Joseph arrived in Prince Rupert from Toronto on August 15, 1916 at the request of Bishop Emile Bunoz. Sister Ernestine taught the lower grades, Sister Berchmans taught the senior grades, Sister Lidwina taught music, and Sister Emerita was in charge of the house. In the beginning the school offered all elementary grades as well as two years of high school. Later, all high school grades were offered as well as grade 13. In 1960, Grades 11 and 12 were discontinued and by 1967 all high school classes were cancelled as the school was enrolling more elementary students.
Custodial history
The newsletter was found in an encyclopedia at the Thrift Store.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of a newsletter entitled "Annunciation Hi-Lites" from June 1955 and includes articles from Father Anthony Jordon, OMI, Father O.P. Mohan, OMI, Sister St. Martin, and students L. Pierce, Robert Armstrong, Christel Geissler, L. Lyons, Jeanine Dumas, Marlene Dumas, Donald Hansen, Bill Smith, Douglas Letourneau, Kathy Saunders, Sharon Wingham, and Anna Juby. It names the First Communion class of 1955 as well as the graduation class, and discusses the Knights of the Alter (alter boys), Brownies, and Little League Baseball.
