Fonds consists of correspondence; manuscripts of novels, short stories, articles, essays, lectures, papers, reviews, speeches, screenplay and thesis; material relating to A. van Herk's editing, teaching, membership in various organizations including the Writers Guild of Alberta and the Alberta Foundation for the Literary Arts, and on various committees; photographs; sound recordings; research material; published work; and works on A. van Herk. Also includes MsC 56, a small appendix consisting of material from the Canadian Book Information Centre described in entry for Canadian Book Information Centre; and MsC 330, an audio cassette recording of A. van Herk reading her short story, Mining Darkness, on CBC Radio's Aircraft, March 1989. Accession 857/09.1 consists of 1.32 m of textual records donated by Aritha van Herk and Rudy Wiebe which is restricted during their lifetimes.
