Biographical history

Arthur Boyd Ferris was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He completed his law degree at UBC in 1954. He articled at Guild, Yule and was called to the Bar in 1955. He spent 24 years at Davis and Company until 1979, when he moved to Boughton, Peterson, Yang, Anderson. In 1968, he was elected to the National Council of the Canadian Bar Association and in 1971-72, he became Chair of the B.C. Branch. In 1973 he was elected to the National Executive of the Canadian Bar; in 1974, he became its National Treasurer. From 1974 to 1976, Ferris held the positions President-Elect and President. Ferris was also active in politics. In 1967-1968, he chaired Pierre Trudeau's successful attempt for leadership of the federal Liberal Party, and in 1968, he co-chaired the campaign to elect Trudeau as Prime Minister.

Custodial history

The records were in the custody of Mrs. Kerry-Lynne Ferris prior to their donation to the archives in 1990.

The fonds consists of subject files, case books and reference material; personal memorabilia, photographs and items related to Ferris' legal practice.
