Custodial history

The records were originally in the custody of the Glenbow Museum and Archives where they had been deposited by Knudsen’s wife in 1989. The records were transferred to the University of Calgary Archives in 1998.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of records created or collected by Arthur Knudsen in pursuit of his hobby of recreating steam engine schematics on paper. The records include correspondence with other steam engine enthusiasts, and with museums and industrial firms that might hold pieces of the information he sought. The records also consist of photographs of existing steam engines, and an article Knudsen submitted to the magazine Live Steam. The fonds also consists of historical drawings and reproductions of steam engines that Knudsen solicited from several sources, and originals of his own drawings.

The fonds is arranged into two series: (1) Correspondence; and (2) Technical Drawings.
