Biographical history
Atlee Bridges was born in 1888 and was a avid hiker, doing many long arduous hikes in the Cranbrook BC area, where he married and raised three daughters. He and his wife Margaret retired to Victoria BC and lived there for many years. In July 1948 he and a party of other hikers completed a week-long trip to Forbidden Plateau in Strathcona Park, compiling a diary of the trip in the form of an album containing photos as well as typed and handwritten notes. At the time of the hike Bridges was 60. He died in 1977 at the age of 89.
Custodial history
Bridges Atlees granddaughter Dee MacPherson was the recipient of belongings of her grandparents. In April 2003 she donated the album to the Comox Archives and Museum due to the content of the album relating to the Comox Valley.
Scope and content
The fonds consist of textual records and graphic material. The materials are a leather bound album containing photographs, postcards, maps, typed notes, and handwritten notes and comprising a diary of two trips: one trip to Forbidden Plateau in Strathcona Park from July 17-25, 1948 and one trip to Mount Angeles in Washington USA; and a brochure advertising Forbidden Plateau area and Mount Angeles in Washington USA.
