Biographical history
Colonel James Emson, Commander, British Army Training Unit Suffield, (BATUS), Canadian Forces Base, was in charge of a project which began in 1984, to research, write and edit the history of the Suffield area. After consulting many experts and longtime local residents, a number of individuals were involved in compiling the text; some individuals composing entire chapters in their field of specialization. The result of their efforts resulted in publication of their book "Dinosaurs to Defense". Included are chapters on dinosaurs, archaeology, the Blackfoot Indians, prairie settlement, cattle ranching, irrigation, homesteading, sheep farming, expropriation of farm lands and Suffield as a research establishment. The history of the "British Block" is also documented in black and white photographs.
