Biographical history

Custodial history

This accession was donated by Bernard Wiese of Westlock, Alberta in 2007. He acquired the Athapaskan beaded gloves and jackets from his parents. They purchased the items from the wife of one of the men who traveled from Slave Lake to Westlock to work on the Wiese farm during harvest time. The folk art carved wooden statue was acquired from Millie Hay, a local from Colinton, Alberta whose parents owned the Colinton Hotel for a number of years. She received it from her brother who acquired it as a debt payment from a First Nations man who frequented the Colinton Hotel and made carvings.

Scope and content

Collection consists of a pair of Athapaskan hide beaded gauntlets, white with beading (pink and red flowers with green stems) and light green interior, two Athapaskan beaded hide jackets with fringe, and a folk art carved wooden statue depicting a cowboy on a horse roping a calf.
