Biographical history
Bertha Reynolds (nee Dowding) was born in 1903 in Markham, Ontario. She was the daughter of Charles Dowding who first arrived in Delta in 1888, then returned to Ontario and resettled in Delta with his family in 1909 to farm. Bertha went to Vancouver Normal School in 1920 and graduated in 1921. She was hired at the Annieville School in Delta in 1922. She moved to Westham Island in 1923 and taught at the Westham Island School from 1923 to 1928. She married Stanley Reynolds (1900-1985) in 1928, and had 5 children: Eva, Gladys, Irene, Victor,and Gordon. They farmed on Benson Road, and after 1944, on Crescent Island. Bertha Reynolds was an active member of the Ladner Methodist Church, later the United Church, from 1909-1944. In 1944, when the Reynolds moved to Crescent Island, Bertha joined the Baptist Church near her home. She was secretary of the British and Foreign Bible Society for many years. As member and historian of the Delta Historical Society, she was responsible for the collection of genealogical information on early Delta citizens.

Scope and content
The fonds consists of photographs and records of Bertha Reynold's family and her activities as teacher, secretary of the British and Foreign Bible Society, and historian for the Delta Museum Society. The fonds contains Delta Pioneer Record Sheets for 93 families in Delta, B.C. They list the names of Delta families and their members. Information includes: dates of births, location of birth, date of marriages, location of marriage, date of burial, location of burial, grandchildren, and reminiscences. Also included are newspaper articles containing additional information on some of the families, and photographs of family and street scenes, mostly in Delta. The fonds also contains miscellaneous records of Ladner families and a notebook of newspaper clippings of the Delta Board of Trade (1934-36). Family activities on the farm are documented in photographs. The fonds also consists of six notebooks containing minutes, clippings and literature pertaining to the British and Foreign Bible Society from 1936-1977.
