Biographical history

The tradition of the Bonne Entente visits between groups of Ontario and Quebec citizens began in 1916, in an attempt to foster greater cooperation and understanding between the two groups, and to promote Canadian unity.

On January 29 and 30, 1925, approximately 350 Ontarians (mostly delegates from municipalities and Boards of Trade) visited Quebec in response to a 1923 visit of Quebecois to Ontario.

Custodial history

Scope and content

Collection consists of two scrapbooks consisting of newspaper clippings concerning the visit of the Ontario Bonne Entente delegation to the Province of Quebec in 1925. Clippings include: welcoming addresses from newspaper editorial staff; welcoming advertisements from local merchants; accounts of speeches given and activities of the delegates; and post conference analyses regarding the success of the visit (with one analysis recommending the adoption of the practice in other parts of the world, such as Ireland and South Africa)
