Biographical history
Auto camps were once a popular way of vacationing. The Bowen Auto Camp, which opened in 1925, was located in Bowen Park and consisted of approximately eight guest cabins, a caretaker's residence, a communal kitchen and other buildings. The City maintained the camp buildings. However, by the late 1930s, the camp fell into disrepair due to lack of funds and was eventually closed.
Custodial history
Volume was deposited in the City Archives Vault at an unknown date. In 1992, the volume was transferred to the Nanaimo Community Archives but remains in the legal custody of the City.
Scope and content
Fonds consists of an inventory, taken in November 1942, of the furnishings and fixtures in the Auto Camp. Only three pages of the 300 page volume remain; the first 36 pages are cut out.
