Biographical history
Brian Mycroft was born in l949 in St. Thomas, Ontario. He was trained as a pilot in Ontario and moved to Prince Rupert in l978 to work for Vancouver Island Helicopters (VIH) as the base engineer in maintenance. He lived in Prince Rupert until l989 and during those eleven years he also worked as an aerial photographer and took thousands of pictures of Prince Rupert, the surrounding area and the Queen Charlotte Islands. Today Brian lives in Victoria where he continues to work for VIH but has not done any aerial photography since leaving Prince Rupert.
Custodial history
The negatives, photographs, and contact sheets were donated to the archives in December 2002 by another Prince Rupert photographer, Virginia Kimmett, another Prince Rupert photographer, who had received them from Brian Mycroft when he left Prince Rupert in 1989.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of images from Brian Mycroft's aerial photography of Prince Rupert and the surrounding areas. It includes scenes such as Ridley Terminals, Prince Rupert Grain, Fairview Terminal, Prince Rupert's harbour, fish farms, large ships, Rivtow, the industrial park, B.C. Ferries, North Pacific Cannery Village, Okabe Shipyards, and the Village of Port Edward.
