Charles-Alfred Dion a été reçu arpenteur le 14 octobre 1861. On connaît peu de chose sur cet arpenteur, si ce n'est qu'il a vécu successivement à Saint-François-de-Beauce (1861-1864), à Saint-Georges (1865-1867) et finalement à Saint-Michel-de-Bellechasse (1868-1871). Au niveau professionnel, il travaille toujours dans la région située à proximité de son lieu de résidence. C'est donc dire qu'entre 1861 et 1868, il arpente des lots situés dans les villages de Saint-François, Saint-Georges et Saint-Benoît-Labre, de même que dans les cantons d'Adstock, Shenley et Tring. Puis, à partir de 1868, il exécute certains travaux à Saint-Michel, La Durantaye et Saint-Raphaël, ainsi qu'à Saint-Jean et Saint-Laurent-d'Orléans
