History

John Climenhaga was born in Delisle, Saskatchewan. In 1949, he was appointed Lecturer in Physics at Victoria College, later becoming Assistant and Associate Professor. From 1958 to 1969, he served as Head of the Victoria College/University of Victoria Department of Physics, and continued as professor at the University of Victoria until his retirement in 1982. He was then named Professor Emeritus. Climenhaga served on several university committees, including the Faculty of Arts and Science Curriculum Committee, the Ad Hoc Committee on the Organization of the Faculty of Arts and Science, the Committee on Student Activities, the Committee on Double Degrees, the Faculty Association and the Faculty Board. From 1961 to 1972, he also served as executive member of the Vancouver Island Hockey League as the representative of the University of Victoria Vikings.
