Western Union Telegraph Company (Heart's Content, Newfoundland) fonds

Fonds consists of a small part of the records relating to the company's Newfoundland cables, mainly engineers' and other reports, both originals and photocopies.

Fonds is arranged in three series: Engineers' reports, 1874-1926; General reports, 1910-1930; and Diaries and logbooks, 1866-1926.

Fonds contains 6 individual diaries containing daily entries made by the telegraph operator at Little Harbour, La Poile Bay. The entries relate to the movement of vessels in the area, weather, fishing and sealing, community events and recreational pursuits. From 1885-1921 the diaries were kept by Robert J. Henderson and from 1938-1948, by George Henderson.

Academic writings

Series consists of records relating to Taylor’s course work through the University of British Columbia, most of which he generated through a correspondence course in short-story writing, while living in Prince Rupert. Records also include some curricula for courses he designed and taught for the Canadian Institute of Speech in Prince Rupert.

Fonds consists of records relating to Jim Taylor’s writing, editing, and broadcasting work, as well as his liaison with colleagues and family members. Fonds comprises the following record series: Correspondence – JAFT to WST (1945-1998); Published articles and resources (1967-2006); Early writings (1959-1980); Personal correspondence (1966-1986); Academic writings (1958-1967); Newsletters (1984-1994); Regular newspaper columns (2007-2009); Manuscripts for monographs (1996-2001); Reference: books written or edited by James Taylor (1981-2010). Documentary forms include correspondence, research notes, interview transcripts, draft and published versions of magazine articles, play scripts, and full manuscripts of books. Also included is a copy of each published book.

James Delgado fonds

The fonds consists of records created and accumulated by Delgado since 1964. The fonds contains correspondence, personal records, photographs, slides, negatives, video recordings, audio recordings of interviews with Delgado, and files focusing on: projects (shipwreck and historic sites), expeditions, lectures and education, and writing. The fonds also focuses on Delgado’s work with the National Park Service in the US, his work with the Vancouver Maritime Museum and with the Institute for Nautical Archaeology. Records also focus on Delgado’s work on The Sea Hunters television program.

The fonds comprises records created by Duke from approximately 1946 to 2006. They are related to all aspects of Duke’s life and career. Among other types of records, the fonds includes: drafts of Duke's articles, essays and speeches; personal and production photographs; annotated working scripts of various television and film productions; personal and administrative correspondence; legal records, personal and administrative correspondence pertaining to the takeover of CKVU-TV; awards; personal notes; journals; press clippings featuring work by and about Duke; ephemera collected by Duke; and audio/visual material.

Series have been determined during archival processing and are primarily based on the various activities that Duke engaged in over his life and working career (see the Arrangement note below for more details about series arrangement). Fonds consists of textual and audiovisual material related to David Suzuki’s professional work. It includes notes and manuscripts of several of his book, including "From Pebbles to Computers" and "Sciencescape" and copies of and correspondence relating to his articles published by "The Globe and Mail", the Southam News Syndicate and "Science Dimension" in the 1980s. It also includes correspondence relating to his professional work, his broadcasting and literary career, his work in the Department of Zoology at UBC, and research materials, information and correspondence regarding various associations to which Suzuki belonged or had dealings. It also includes recordings of Dr. David Suzuki’s "Discovery" and Dr. Suzuki’s "Equinox" from 1983-1990 and video recordings of some episodes of "The Nature of Things" from 1994, and copies of his speeches from 1985-2009.
