Biographical history

The Village of Port McNicoll was incorporated by 7 Geo. 5 (1917), a special act of Provincial Parliament, effective 12 April 1917. The community was founded in 1909 when the Canadian Pacific Railway Company was seeking a shorter route between its operations on the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Seaboard. It was named after Mr. David MacNicol, a vice-president with the CPR. In the spring of 1911 the CPR moved its Great Lakes Steamship fleet from Owen Sound to Port McNicoll. As a result of municipal restructuring, Tay, Victoria Harbour and Port McNicoll amalgamated effective January 1, 1994, to form the Township of Tay.

Custodial history

Records processed as accession 987-26 were transferred from the Village of Port McNicoll municipal office. Accessions 2002-03 and 2006-18 were transferred from the post-amalgamation Township of Tay municipal office.
