Biographical history

David and James Bayne Davison were brothers who came from Pictou, N.S. to Wallace, N.S. in 1837 to begin a shipbuilding business and operate a general store. The brothers built over 30 vessels and the store was in operation unitl the 1870s.

Custodial history

The records were found in the Kennedy-Davison house at Wallace, in 1989 when the house was passed on to the community to be used as a museum.

Scope and content

business and personal records of David and James B. Davison. The majority of the records are in relation to the general store and shipyard operated by the brothers. These consist of ledgers, accounts, receipts, promissary notes, contracts and correspondence. The correspondence includes letters regarding cargo, sale of vessels, political events in Halifax and some personal correspondence with family and friends. Also included are records regarding the settling of David Davison's estate.
