Biographical history

Rev. David Bruce Martyn was born in Seattle, Washington, and spent his formative years in Nelson, British Columbia. During the late 1960s he worked on the Thomas Crosby V and attended the Winter Course at Naramata Centre. Martyn was ordained by BC Conference in 1977, after graduating with a Master of Divinity from Vancouver School of Theology. He served several congregations in BC, including Knox United in Terrace (1977-1984); Deer Lake United in Burnaby (1984-1994); First United in Kelowna (1994-2005); and Royal Heights United, North Delta (2005-2009). During his last charge, Martyn helped Royal Heights and St. John’s (Strawberry Hill) prepare for amalgamation, which resulted in the formation of Crossroads United Church (Delta, BC) just prior to his retirement in 2009. Outside of congregational ministry, Martyn served as chair of three BC Conference presbyteries (Prince Rupert, Westminster, and Fraser); and chaired the Division of Communications and Home Missions Committee as well. He also served on the General Council Worship and Liturgy Working Unit and the Conference Archives Committee.
