Biographical history

A resolution of Synod was passed in 1952 requesting that the Executive Committee inaugurate a fund raising campaign, the funds to be used to assist in securing an Anglican presence throughout the diocese. Bishop Gower launched an appeal in his Mid- Lent Pastoral in March 1952. The campaign was planned for the period between May 11th to May 18th. The total sum to be raised was $200,000 of which 25% had to be returned to the parishes. The Bishop named a team of two, one clergyman and one layman, to act as chairmen of the campaign. A secretary-treasurer was also appointed for a specific period. Meetings with rural deanery chapters were organized to discuss all aspects of the campaign with clergy, with both the Bishop and chairmen attending the chapter meetings. There was no fixed parochial allotment, each contribution amount was arrived at by suggestion and negotiation with each parish. The campaign was not be extended beyond a six month limit in order not to interfere parochial financial programs.
