Biographical history

L'Office des congrès et du tourisme du Grand Montréal voit le jour en octobre 1919 et fait partie des plus anciens offices des congrès et de tourisme en Amérique du Nord. Depuis le début de son existence, il a été associé aux différents chefs de file de l'industrie touristique de Montréal, du Québec et du Canada. La naissance et la gouverne de l'organisme pendant les cinq premières années, sont le fait de monsieur J.R. Douglas, alors président du Automobile Club du Canada. Par la suite, d'autres représentants importants de la communauté des affaires s'associent à lui: Théodore G. Morgan, la famille Birks, Armand Dupuis (Dupuis et frères), C.O. Bonter (Canada Steamship Line), etc. En 1989, il intègre le personnel de l'Office municipal du tourisme de Montréal créé en 1962. Il reste fidèle à ses mandats originaux. Les grands axes de ses actions portent sur les ventes, les communications (coordination des campagnes de publicité, publications d'imprimés, relations publiques, etc.), les services aux congrès (centrale d'hébergement), les finances, l'administration, le membership et la recherche et le développement (analyse des marchés, développement des produits, etc.)
