Biographical history
Don Tannas, 1938- , was born at Marwayne, Alberta. He moved to High River, Alberta, with his family who were general merchants, in 1948. He earned a B.A., B.Ed., and M.Ed. from the University of Alberta. He worked as a teacher in the High River area, eventually becoming principal of Rt. Hon. Joe Clark School. He was an active member of the Progressive Conservative party and worked on the campaigns of his long-time friend Joe Clark. He was also actively involved as a volunteer in economic development and urban planning issues in the Town of High River. In 1989 he was elected M.L.A. for Highwood, eventually serving as Deputy Speaker of the House. After retiring from politics in 2004, he became Executive Director of the Western Communities Foundation and moved to Water Valley, Alberta. He married Chris Mason in 1961, and they had two sons, Bruce and Scott.

Includes a transcript of a report of the journey of Lt.-Col. Patrick Robertson-Ross from Fort Edmonton through the Kootanie Pass to the Kootanie River (originally written 1872); a pocket book of township maps annotated to indicate property owners in the Highwood region (ca. 1935); an essay by Bert Sheppard on the TL Ranch (ca. 1952); essay, The Story of Chief Medicine Hat by Adrian Hope (1962); report of the Committee of Inquiry regarding personnel matters at High River General Hospital (1970); records of the High River High School Reunion (1979-1980); and photographs of the Bar U Ranch (1947).
