Name of creator
Donald H. Bates lived in Lake Oswego, Oregon.
The tape recording was donated to the Yukon Archives by the Archives of the UBC Museum of Anthropology in 1979, which had received the recording from Donald Bates.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of one tape recording made when Johnnie Johns set up a tape recorder (supplied by D. H. Bates) at a Whitehorse party in the early 1940s, and an unpublished manuscript by Donald Bates and Lewis Mills, entitled "One diary of grizzly hunt 'Ursus Horribilus', Yukon Territory - Canada, May 27 to June 10, 1950." The manuscript describes the two men's hunting trip in the Yukon with guide, Johnnie Johns.
