Biographical history

Donald Cameron, also known as Dan Cameron, operated a store at Underwood in Bruce County, Ontario. By September 1893, he had moved to Hepworth, Bruce County, Ontario and bought the General Store at the Railway Crossing from James Vance. After his retirement in the early 1900s, his son William carred on the business until 1923 when he sold the store to Aubrey and Mary Mercer from Owen Sound.

Custodial history

These records were created by Donald Cameron, passed to his son, William Cameron, who left them with the purchasers of the General Store in Hepworth, Aubrey and Mary Mercer from Owen Sound, who operated the store until November 1967. They donated the material to the Archives in 1968.

Scope and content

This fonds consists of 3 day books created by Donald Cameron within his occupation as storekeeper of a General Store first in Underwood and by September 1893 in Hepworth, Bruce County, Ontario. The day books cover the following time periods: 1886-1890, 1890-1893, and 1897-1899.
