The holdings include records, documents, plans, photographs (historical and contemporary), art works, correspondence, slides, etc. of the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. The oldest section of the City of Vancouver is slated for massive redevelopment and change. DERA, as a vibrant and effective community group, has kept the heritage of the area alive, fought demolition and constantly strives to preserve the "culture" of the area. Our holdings would be of great interest to planners, historians, architects, social work students, politicians, etc., and those wanting to preserve "inner" cities from massive change, gentrification and redevelopment.
