Biographical history
Dr. David Mitchell Bachop was born July 22 1931, Edinburgh, Scotland. He received his MD from Edinburgh in 1955 and was awarded the Murdoch Brown Silver Medallist in Clinical Medicine in 1955. He practised general medicine in Vancouver from 1956 until his death. Dr. Bachop was an elected member of the BCMA Board of Directors from 1965 to 1974 and sat on the BCMA Convention Committee from 1966 to 1988. He was elected president of the BCMA in 1972. Dr. Bachop was also a member of the board of directors of the Canadian Medical Association from 1973 to 1975. He was an elected member of the council of the Canadian Medical Protective Association from 1980 to 1988. David was also the president of the Greater Vancouver General Practitioners Association in 1969. A proud Scotsman, Dr. Bachop was the President of the Vancouver Saltire Society from 1986 to 1988 and of the St Andrews and Caledonian Society of Vancouver in 1985. Dr. Bachop and his wife “Chick” had three sons David, James and Michael. He was an avid bridge and tennis player and enjoyed Scottish country dancing. Dr. Bachop died of cancer on February 19, 1988. In his honour, the Dr. David M. Bachop Awards Fund was founded to recognize young general practitioners who have achieved excellence in training and to recognize a doctor from any branch of medicine who has made an extraordinary contribution in the field of community service or professional endeavour. This awards fund was approved by Dr. Bachop shortly before his death.

Fonds consists of a scrapbook that contains newspaper clippings, photographs, correspondence, notes, invitations which capture the activities that Dr. Bachop undertook when he was the BCMA President (1972-1973).
