Custodial history

The records were in the custody of Dr. Konrad’s wife who donated them to the University Archives in 2001.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of records created or collected by Dr. Konrad over the course of his life and throughout his career. The records include the journal created by Konrad from his seminal trip to Paraguay as a volunteer with the Mennonite Central Committee, his post-graduate research and the scholarly activities undertaken as a faculty member at the University of Calgary. These records include research and field notes, drafts of articles and conference presentations, transcripts of interviews, background research including newspaper clippings for the Calgary Stampede project, and notebooks of archival research from Mérida, Yucatán.
The fonds is arranged into four series: (1) Early and Post-graduate activities; (2) Chicle Industry Research; (3) Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Research; and (4) Professional Affiliations and Scholarly Activities.

Arrangement

The records were not found in any discernible order other than that the field note books were placed together as a group. Order has been imposed by the arranging archivist into series and chronologically within these series. Where no file titles were apparent, these have been created according to the content of the records.

Administrative records relating to the Department of History, to the interdisciplinary group of Latin American Studies, and to the Faculty of Arts & Science have been removed from this fonds and incorporated into the respective corporate record fonds.
