Portée et contenu
Fonds consists of seven journals of bird and weather observations in the Kingston area, as well as an accompanying index. The first two volumes give a daily account of weather and bird observations over the period covering March 1st, 1895 to September 28th, 1900. Volumes 3 and 4 note sightings of birds and observations, in addition to which there are several passages giving detailed descriptions of some specific species of birds. Volumes 5 and 6 detail bird sightings, as well as some weather observations. Volume 6 also contains a supplement of a diary from a trip to Okatoks, Alberta. Volume 7 opens with observations on egg collecting as well as personal inquiries about the nature of nest-making. The volume then goes on to describe the materials found in the nests, the number of eggs collected and the different locations of nests for various species, and occasionally notes the date when a nest was found. The index is in two parts, the first of which lists the species of birds mentioned in the first six volumes of the fonds and indicates where each mention occurs. The second section lists the birds described in the Okatoks, Alberta notes, and indicates where each mention may be found.
