Biographical history

Percy Farmer was appointed Police Magistrate for Enderby in 1946 by the Attorney General of British Columbia. He was given the powers and authority of a Stipendiary Magistrate of the Province to rule on minor breaches of city and provincial statutes, issue summonses and warrants and fines, and conduct preliminary hearings. In 1962 the provincial Magistrate's Act replaced the Police Court with a Magistrate's Court. Magistrate Percy Farmer heard his last case on Ocober 22, 1969, shortly after the Magistrate's Court was changed to Provincial Court. His position was not replaced.

Custodial history

Records were donated to the Vernon Museum. When the Enderby Museum opened in 1988, Pat Farmer, Percy Farmer's son, requested they be transferred to the Enderby Museum.

Fonds also includes summaries of convictions (1969), provincial correspondence, pre-sentence reports from the Provincial Probation Service (1969), court orders from the Department of Social Welfare (1965-1969), a court testimony (1968), and notes kept by the Magistrate concerning several cases.
