Biographical history
James Duncan naît en 1799 de l'union d'Andrew Duncan et de Rebecca Blainey. En 1872, il épouse Margaret Everard, de qui il a une fille, Grace, l'année suivante. James Duncan décède en 1880. Devenue veuve, Margaret épouse en secondes noces Charles Millar. James Duncan fut successivement agent du capitaine John Ployart dans le canton de Durham, puis dans le canton de Grantham pour les héritiers de John Richardson de 1843 à 1853, ce dernier ayant acquis les terres de William Grant à son décès en 1805. Premier maire du Conseil du comté de Grantham en juillet 1845, James Duncan occupe aussi le poste de registraire du Bureau d'enregistrement de Drummondville pendant une brève période en 1848. De son vivant, James Duncan possède une ferme connue sous le nom de « Mount Peasant ».
