Biographical history
L'aventure de la radiodiffusion dans la région de l'Abitibi-Témiscamingue débute en 1937 lorsque Donald Archibald Jones obtient un permis de diffusion. Cependant, l'année suivante, il renonce à celui-ci en faveur de la compagnie de radiodiffusion Rouyn-Noranda ltée. Rapidement, trois stations locales voient le jour : CKRN-Rouyn en 1939; CKVD-Val-d'Or en 1939 et CHAD-Amos en 1942. Dès 1944, la compagnie Radio Rouyn-Abitibi ltée se porte acquéreur des installations, mais en 1948, une nouvelle transaction intervient et de nouveaux propriétaires entrent en scène. Il s'agit de David Armand Gourd, Jean Joffre Gourd et Roger Charbonneau qui forment la compagnie Northern Radio-Nord. Bientôt Radio-Nord ajoute à son monopole radiophonique celui de la télévision : CKRN-TV est affiliée au réseau français de Radio-Canada en 1957 et CFEM, à celui de TVA en 1979. Pour compléter son réseau, la compagnie acquiert aussi la station CHOT-TV de Hull et, en 1980, inaugure une autre station radiophonique CHLM-MF
