Custodial history
Most of the fonds was donated to the Horseman's Hall of Fame, Calgary, by Fred's daughter, Kay Hinchcliffe. The Hall held it from 1953 until 1975. Fred's autobiography was held by Mr. and Mrs. Leishman McNeill for some years before they donated it to Glenbow in 1965. The diary transcript was donated by his daughter, Marian Connelly.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of a typescript of his diary (1874-1884) and an autobiographical manuscript "The '74 Mounties" (1938). The fonds also includes correspondence, notes, photographs, scrapbooks, and newsclippings about Mounted Police, military, and musical activities (1870s-1946). Includes a typescript of the 1874 diary of Colonel John French.
Records related to the following subject are also in this fonds. See inventory for details: W.D. Antrobus, T.S. Belchek, Phileas Brunette, Calgary Rifle Association, Daniel "Peach" Davis, James H. Fullwood, Great War Veterans Association, John Herron, John McDougall, Dr. John McLean, James Farquharson Macleod, Mary Belle Rich, Nicholas Sheran, P.G. Thomas, Treaty 7, Fred White, Thomas E.
