Biographical history

Le village amérindien Grand-Lac-Victoria, aujourd'hui appelé Kitcisakik, est situé près de la baie Barker du Grand Lac Victoria, qui a aussi porté le nom de Grand Lac et de Lac Missionnaire avant 1860. Au XIXe siècle, les missionnaires partent au printemps de Montréal et suivent la route de la fourrure pour rejoindre les missions du lac Témiscamingue, du Grand Lac Victoria, du Lac Abitibi et de la baie James. La mission du Grand Lac Victoria est visitée à chaque année à partir de 1844. La mission du Lac Barrière était située tout près du Grand Lac Victoria (probablement dans les environs du réservoire Dozois). Le missionnaire chargé de la mission du Grand Lac Victoria s'occupait aussi de celle du Lac Barrière

Le registre original 1894-1908 est la propriété des Oblats de Saint-Marc-de-Figuery. Un copie nous a été remise par BAnQ au mois de juillet 2009

Scope and content

Le registre comprend les baptêmes, mariages et sépultures des régions du Grand-Lac-Victoria et du lac Barrière. On y retrouve aussi un "Acte de la visite pastorale aux missions sauvages" du père Narcisse Zéphirin Lorrain, évêque de Pembroke
