Custodial history

After 1871, the fonds apparently remained in the custody of one of the provinces of the New Russia region or the City of Odessa. In 1922 it was deposited in the newly-created Odessa Historical Archives (now Odessa State Archives). During the Second World War the records were evacuated to Stalingrad and then to Uralsk before being returned to Odessa, and part of the fonds may have been lost. In 2002 selections from the fonds were microfilmed and described by Tim Janzen and Tatyana Makarenko.

Scope and content

The fonds includes reports on resolutions of disputes among foreign settlers in New Russia, and between settlers and government; instructions on governance of villages and local districts; statistical reports; records of passports issued; and financial statements.
