Biographical history
The Hill Debating Society was formed around 1830 at Hopewell Hill, New Brunswick. The constitution of the society outlined the rules and regulations: no theological or immoral subjects; no liquor at the meetings; intoxicated members not permitted to attend meetings; and no discussion of society's business outside the membership. Membership fee was 1 shilling. Visitors were allowed at debates but not during the business section of meetings. Will A. Peck, Elisha Rogers, David Stiles, Elisha Peck, James Rogers, John Rogers the 3rd, John Russell, John Stanot, Richard B. Morse, Samuel Clark, and William Rogers the 2nd all signed the original constitution
Custodial history
This fonds was donated by Margaret McKenna, daughter of Luther Archibald, who was living at Hopewell Hill at least as early as 1881.

Fonds consists of the constitution of the Hill Debating Society and contains the signatures of founding members
