Biographical history
Archbishop Charles John Seghers' death, as he attempted to open a permanent mission in the interior of Alaska, was the catalyst for great interest in the North and the acceptance of the Sisters of St. Ann to assist missionary members of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) to open a mission at Nulato. The site location changed to that of Koserefsky (later called Holy Cross). A boarding-school closed in 1956, with the transfer of some students to Glennallen, Alaska, The Sisters withdrew from Holy Cross in 1957, returned from 1965-1969, had a presence in pastoral ministry in 1973, and renewed pastoral ministries in the village from 1987-1993.
