Biographical history
Hugh Daniel Johnson, 1885-1983?, from Elgin County, Ontario, travelled west on a harvest excursion in 1902. He filed an application for a homestead in the Connemara district, between Cayley and Nanton, Alberta. He was not quite eighteen years of age, and his application was delayed a year. In 1917, he married Mary McRae of Okotoks, but she died less than a year later. In 1921 he married Isobel Clinton, from Scotland, and they had one daughter, Anne (Dunn). He served as a trustee of Foothills School Division for several years. He lived on his original homestead until his retirement in 1961.
