Series consists of various records created or maintained by the Board of Governors (1896-1967)/ Board of Trustees (1968-1986) of the Toronto Western Hospital. The series is divided into two sub-series:

TW 1-1 Annual Reports
TW 1-2 General administrative files

This sub-series consists of annual reports issued by the TWH Board of Governors/ Board of Trustees. The Hospital's first annual report was issued for the year 1897, but the first report surviving in the archives is the 19th, for the year 1915. This sub-series is missing reports for 1897-1914, 1919-1922, 1926-1928, 1930-1939, 1941-1943, 1948, 1959, and 1963. Reports for 1929, 1947, and 1949-1954 exist only in draft, typescript form and are incomplete.

Reports typically contain some or all of the following: brief reports by the chairman of the Board and the Superintendent/ General Superintendent/ Executive Director/ President; reports by the chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, various medical departments, and the Director of the School of Nursing; summary financial records; lists of members of the Board, administrative staff, medical staff, and the Medical Advisory Committee; photographs of hospital buildings, facilities and staff.

Sub-series consists of miscellaneous general administrative files created and maintained by the TWH Board of Governors/ Board of Trustees. File 1-2-2 includes draft copies of the General By-Laws of the Governors of the Toronto Western Hospital (1914), annotated by either the Board or the medical staff. File 1-2-4 includes correspondence with solicitors and contractors; leases and memoranda of agreement; offers of purchase; tax assessments; statements of assets and liabilities in real property; summary list of contracts for construction and renovation of hospital buildings; insurance policies; and "Notes of Inspection" (1907) by Ontario Department of Hospitals and Charities. File 1-2-10 includes a draft copy of the agreement of affiliation with the University and a copy of the minutes of the November 25, 1913 meeting of the TWH Board.

This series consists of records created and maintained by various internal medical and other committees at the TWH. The records are primarily minutes of meetings and predominantly date from 1980 to 1982.

This series consists of photographs and photographic negatives depicting TWH staff, students, buildings and facilities, events, services, and medical equipment/ technology. A few files also contain correspondence, biographical data and other documents relating to individuals.

This sub-series consists of photographic portraits of individual members of the TWH Board of Governors/ Board of Trustees. Files for Board members Harry N. Bawden, George M. Black Jr., William E. Coutts, W.C. Thornton Cran, and J.R. Jenkins also contain correspondence, biographical data and other documents relating to their service at the TWH.

This sub-series consists of photographic portraits of TWH senior administrative staff. The file for J.B. McAulay also contains biographical data relating to his service at the Hospital.

This sub-series consists of group and individual photographs of TWH general staff, including nurses, lab technicians, cleaners, medical and social services departmental staff, and clerical staff.

This sub-series consists of miscellaneous photographs and photographic negatives depicting TWH buildings (exterior and interior) and facilities, 1893-[198?].

This sub-series consists of photographs and photographic negatives depicting various prominent events and personalities associated with the Toronto Western Hospital from 1936-1983.
