Series forms part of Royal Commission on the Donald Marshall, Jr., Prosecution fonds and consists of ten lists and indices: witness index to hearings transcripts, chronological list of witnesses, alphabetical list of witnesses, date index to hearings, subject index to hearings, ruling index to hearings, subject and name authority files, date index to exhibits, exhibit list by exhibit number, and list of public submissions.

Correspondence

Series forms part of Royal Commission on the Donald Marshall, Jr., Prosecution fonds and consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence. Much of the correspondence is between commission counsel and the various law firms representing witnesses and potential witnesses. Some correspondence is between the commission and the witnesses themselves; the remainder is with experts, researchers and other interested parties. Correspondence divided into ingoing and outgoing letters and then organized chronologically within each category.

Counsel notebooks and other material

Series forms part of Royal Commission on the Donald Marshall, Jr., Prosecution fonds and consists of nine binders of commission counsel notes and other material: (1) notes of counsel George MacDonald, (2) notes for final submission and (3) transcript selections with notes. Also includes counsel cross-examination notes for (4) Gordon Gale, (5) Frank Edward, (6) Michael Harris and Roland Thornhill, (7) James Caroll, (8) John MacIntyre and (9) notes of other witnesses. Also includes a binder of daily summaries of the hearings as well as copies of the commission's originating Order in Council, news releases, advertisements and notices of hearings, and rules of procedure.

Transcripts

Series forms part of Royal Commission on the Donald Marshall, Jr., Prosecution fonds and consists of transcripts of public hearings, 9 September 1987-3 November 1988. Also includes transcripts for the hearing on applications for funding held 13-14 May 1987 and the consultative conference held 24-26 November 1988.

Submissions on applications for funding

Subseries forms part of Submissions series and consists of submissions on applications (by parties granted standing) to receive funding for counsel. Subseries includes applications and submissions from the Department of the Attorney General; Adolphus Evers, Gary Green and R.A. McAlpine; Herb Davies; John MacIntyre; the Union of Nova Scotia Indians; Oscar Seale; the estate of Donald MacNeil; the Black United Front and RCMP inspectors Donald Scott and Harry Wheaton. Included are books of authority accompanying the submissions of John MacIntyre and the Department of the Attorney General. Also includes a "summary of submissions for funding."

Subseries forms part of Submissions series and consists of submissions by members of the public to the commission. The submissions are mostly in the form of letters with attachments.

Subseries forms part of Submissions series and consists of written submissions by parties granted standing or observer status by the commission. Subseries includes the final submissions by or on behalf of Roland Thornhill; the Union of Nova Scotia Indians; the Black United Front; Oscar Seale; Herb Davis; the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Correctional Service of Canada and the National Parole Board; the Attorney General of Nova Scotia and the Department of the Attorney General; Donald C. MacNeil; Donald C. Murray; John F. MacIntrye; Donald Marshall, Jr. and counsel for the commission, all of whom were granted standing. Also includes a submission by the Nova Scotia Branch of the Canadian Bar Association, which was granted observer status, and a submission "respecting the call of certain witnesses (media)" on behalf of John MacIntyre, party with standing.
