Peter and Mary Lester fonds

The fonds consists of records referring to Peter Lester's time as mayor. There is one item of correspondence from the State of Alaska thanking Peter for travelling to Ketchikan for the inauguration of MV Wickersmith in 1968. There are photographs taken between 1958-1992 of trips to China and Japan, the unveiling of the restored Japanese fishing boat Kazu Maru in Prince Rupert's Mariner's Park, the interior of the courthouse and CityWest, city crews, road construction, streets, official openings, presentations and visits by politicians. There are also photographs of the fire hall on Fulton Street, the swimming pool on 2nd Ave., parks, housing, the airport ferry, golf course, ball fields, sawmill, the seaplane base at Seal Cove, Philip M. Ray Insurance and Travel, the Chatham Daycare, RCMP and RCMP ball, a baseball team and Bernice Liu being honoured at a celebration. There is also a photograph of mayor and council when Dr. R.G. Large became Freeman of the City in 1977. There are cassette recordings from interviews on radio with Peter and some of dictated letters from the mayor's office, a diary from 1961, newspaper clippings from 1958-1966, and certificates. It contains a certificate Mary received from the Prince Rupert Community Council and negatives, film cassettes and film indexes that depicting community celebrations and family events such as birthdays, parades, dance recitals, weddings and graduations from 1988 to 1993.

The fonds consists of photographs of early Prince Rupert showing the building of the town site from the first pile driven to build the wharf in 1906, the first grade of the railway in 1908, the first GTP passenger train, and scenes of early Prince Rupert and the surrounding area up until to the 1920s. There are photographs of people in Prince Rupert, including family and colleagues, nurses during WWI, the drydock, planes, parades, boats, steamships, reservoirs, the Skeena River, Ocean Falls, the cold storage plant, football games, picnics, fire trucks, one photograph of native children in Metlakatla, and a logging camp at Alice Arm. It also includes a certificate of appointment from when Ernest was made a Notary Public on September 21, 1909 and a postcard received by Ernest in Prince Rupert in July 1907, mailed from England June 3, 1907.

Gordon family fonds

The fonds consists of photographs related to scenes and events in Prince Rupert, on the Skeena River, and in Terrace and records related to the Gordon family, Gordon's Grocery and Gordon's Hardware. It includes 39 photographs depicting train wreck of Engine No. 101 on the Skeena, the opening celebration of the Skeena Highway in Terrace (1944), scenes in Prince Rupert including a man with halibut catch, view of the federal building, Freddi Wingham [ca. 192-], the opening of the Friendship House (1958), Alder Park with totem poles [ca. 193-], CN Park, "Queen of Prince Rupert" and its first visit to the city in June 1966, 2nd Avenue West and 3rd Street, and the Presbyterian Church (1992). It also includes a letter to Mrs. Robert Gordon regarding the opening of the Skeena Highway (1944), a postcard addressed to Olive Mae Gordon (1946), an account ledger for Gordon's Grocery (1919-1920), Profit and Loss Account Ledger for Gordon's Hardware (1945-1946), a certificate for the Tsimpsian Grand Lodge in Vancouver (1930), a certificate for Olive Mae Gordon's graduation from the Prince Rupert General Hospital Nursing School (1930), blueprints for the Gordon's Home at 234 4th Avenue East (for former owner Mr. Maquire), blueprints showing a map of the Skeena River and vicinity of Khatada to Prince Rupert, Location Plan for Terrace, B.C. (1942), Lakelse Lake Lot Plan (1919), and blueprints for Gordon's Hardware. There is a booklet with instructions for mounting and wearing decorations, campaign starts and medals along with a decal, a poster with Instructions to be observed in the event of an enemy attack, a blackout map for Prince Rupert, and an Aurora (1937). Other artifacts include a nursing cape, calendar with themometre from Gordon's Hardware (1958) and a 68th Coast Bty. R.C.A. crest. It also includes the program for the auction sale of Prince Rupert lots in Vancouver on May 25 and 29, 1909 with pencilled numbers and notes, a booklet from 1923 with newspaper pages and section maps of Prince Rupert for the City Assessment Roll, regulations and tariff of fees, rentals and charges under the water act from 1939, maps of Prince Rupert sections 5 and 6 from 1909, and a BC pre-emptors map, from 1929.
