Samuel Holland collection / [created by] Public Archives and Records Office

This collection consists of several photocopies of documents relating to Samuel Holland including: notes concerning Holland's life compiled by an archivist at the Public Archives and Records Office; several copies of "The Life and Times of Major Samuel Holland" by Willis Chipman, and transcripts of correspondence between Holland and the British government. The copies were made some time between 1964 and 1973. In the Item listing which follows, the dates refer to the originals.

This collection consists of copies of 7 architectural drawings depicting the proposed fort at Port La Joye and plans of the buildings at the fort. The originals are dated 1733 and 1751. Also included in this collection is a letter dated 1920 from A. A. McLean, possibly of the Public Archives of Canada, to Mr. Fraser of the Legislative Library in Charlottetown.

This collection consists of two scrapbooks of newspaper clippings, dated 1899-1900, about the Boer War and the participation of Prince Edward Islanders in the war. Also included are 4 color slides of graveyards and graves of Canadian soldiers in South Africa. The slides were probably taken during the 1960s.

The majority of the collection consists of documents relating to Alexander McMillan the elder and Alexander McMillan the younger and the land they owned in Lot 57. Land records of the McMillan family include conveyances, notice of sales, leases, surveys, and plans of the township. Other records of the McMillan family include correspondence, as well as financial and legal documents concerning the rent of land as well as probate documents. Miscellaneous items include newspaper clippings, as well as obituary notices for Joseph A. MacMillan. The records are arranged into the following series:

The collection consists of two copy prints of Cardigan circa 1906. One photograph displays vessels in the Cardigan Harbour, and the other, taken from Cardigan Bridge, shows the homes and businesses on the north side of Cardigan Harbour.

Muster rolls for Loyalists granted land on St. John's Island, 1784

This collection consists of copies of muster rolls and related papers for United Empire Loyalists from Shelburne, Nova Scotia, who were granted land on St. John's Island (Prince Edward Island) in 1784. Included are correspondence between government and military officials, muster rolls, returns which document the numbers of people involved, and other related documents. The original documents are dated 25 October 1783 to 29 September 1784.

Ruth Aitken Bristol collection

The collection consists of genealogical information concerning the Aitken family which was collected by Ruth Aitken Bristol. The files are arranged into the following series:

Included are an autobiography written by John Astor Aitken between 1959 and 1961, with comments written by Ruth Aitken Bristol in 1969; obituary notices and genealogical notes concerning the Aitken and Townsend families; and twelve photographs of Aitken family members, tombstones and homes.

Colonial Building exterior plan

This single collected item consists of an architectural drawing of the exterior of the proposed Colonial Building to be built in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The plan is comprised of three sheets. The provenance of this plan is unknown although, given the similarity between this plan and the structure of the Colonial Building as it was built, it is likely that the architect was Isaac Smith.

This collection consists of copies of ca. 250 photographs housed at the Garden of the Gulf Museum. The images depict buildings, residents, and scenes of Montague and the surrounding area. The originals are dated 1876-1967.

Townsend Coffin Muncey collection

The collection consists of a journal (1886-1895), and a letter book (1897-1903), which was collected at the Cape Traverse boat house and telegraph office by Townsend Muncey. The journal documents the winter mail service from Cape Traverse, PEI, to Cape Tormentine, New Brunswick. The weather, ice conditions, and the time of the ice boats arrival and departure with the mail were recorded by the individuals making the crossings and were kept at the boathouse by Townsend Muncey. The letter book contains copies of letters sent to the Marine and Fisheries Department in Charlottetown, lists of boatmen and their respective positions, statements of tickets, and financial statements of the boathouse and telegraph office.
