<p>Collection consists of video history interviews with park pioneers, as well as some events, created by EKOS Communications in partnership with the <a href="http://www.elderscouncilforparks.org"> Elders Council for Parks of British Columbia </a>to commemorate the 100th anniversary of BC Parks in 2011.<p>The Elders Council is an independent society, whose members are retired parks system employees and conservation advocates who have dedicated a significant portion of their lives to parks and protected areas in BC. These interviews served as source material for the documentary <a href="http://ekoscommunications.com/node/723"> BC Parks: Celebrating 100 Years of Recreation and Protection.</a></p><p>EKOS Communications first launched in 2005 as ekostv.com with the goal of creating Canada's first independent new media channel. ekostv was re-envisioned in 2007 as EKOS Communications, Inc. which providing environmental education and communication services. Clients included Parks Canada, BC Parks, Natural Resources Canada, Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, Metro Vancouver, and Union of BC Municipalities. EKOS Communications’ services included project management, video production, audio production, web design and development, community animation, group process and facilitation, research and writing, communications strategy, communications consultation, environmental education, curriculum design, development and evaluation.</p><p>In December 2010, EKOS Communications Inc. dissolved and was re-formed as EKOS Communications under the sole proprietorship of creator, president and executive producer Rick Searle. As of April 2011, other chief officers of EKOS Communications included Creative Director/Writer Starr Munro, Editor/Shooter Richard Fulop, and Webmaster Prarie Blake. EKOS Communications’ stated mission is “to assist with the rapid advancement of ecological literacy and sustainability through environmental education and communication;” “Combining video, audio, animation, and print with new media innovations, EKOS Communications connects people more deeply with each other to work together for the betterment of the planet.”</p><p>Standard questions were used in most of the interviews and included dates of employment/association with BC Parks, parks worked in, greatest challenges, accomplishments and regrets, lessons learned, hopes for provincial park system today and mentors.</p><p>Interviewers included Rick Searle. The photographs are arranged by subject matter and cover activities in and around the town of Deseronto, Ontario. The majority date from the late nineteenth century and many depict the lumber-related industries of the Rathbun Company in Deseronto. There are also photographs of school groups, churches, railways, First World War airfields and portraits of Deseronto citizens.

This collection contains the record books kept in operating the businesses and correspondence related to the business of smoking herring and marine repairs. There is a sectional Aeronautical chart of Boston (V-10), n.d.; blueprints of the barge "Minca" built for the Ministry of War, 1944; a Lee Wilcox poem; newspaper clipping about the replica of the schooner "Bluenose"; work orders for the annual refit of the patrol boat "Gull Light," 1970.

The collection consists of Andy Philip's news files re stories of interest to Calgarians (1967-1976). Includes photographs of the Four Seasons Hotel and the Mackenzie Valley Pipeline inquiry by Justice T.R. Berger. Also includes articles written by Catherine Philip about her family, CFGP Radio (Grande Prairie) the Alaska Highway, and the Calgary Zoo's history.

The collection consists of typescripts of interviews (1955-1956), reminiscences, diaries (1897-1914), and autobiographies; files of biographical and historical notes; and photographs of pioneers and the area. This collection consists of family and business records belonging to the Hilyards and related families. The business records of Thomas Hilyard and, after 1873, Hilyard Brothers include lumbering agreements, invoices, accounts, mortgages, deeds, shipbuilding agreements and a volume with shipping accounts, lists of vessels built and voyages made. There are also journals, day books and other accounting records of Thomas Hilyard and Hilyard Bros, a record of lumber sawn at Hilyard Bros., payroll and time books Material belonging to the Seeley family includes records about the ship "Australasian", bonds, agreements, deeds, invoices and receipts to Alexander McLachlan Seely from Saint John businesses, insurance documents, accounts and personal correspondence. There is also information about the Acadia College Endowment Fund and Leinster Street Baptist Church and an account book of Spring Dale Paper Mill, 1877.

There are also records relating to the Saint John harbour issue, 1885-1914, and documents about the ship "Magna Charta", 1865-1884. Invoices, accounts, workmen's accounts and other material belonging to the related McDonald and Roberts families are also included. There is an abstract book of surveyors' summaries of lumber transported by scow, 1897-1900, and a letter book of F.W. Holt (Saint John civil engineer), 1909-1913.
