Durant family letters collection

This collection consists of letters to members of the Durant family. The majority of the letters have been transcribed and the transcriptions are included in the collection. There are a number of letters (1850-1863) to Samuel Brock Durant of Prince Edward Island from his mother Mary Ann Durant (who later remarried to become Mary Ann Goddard) and his sister Elizabeth Durant, both of Plymouth. Samuel's mother and sister write with news of Samuel's brothers, comment on Samuel's purchase of his leasehold estate and update the family with their own news. In the collection, there is also an 1868 letter from Peter Sinclair to S. Durant, Esq. regarding a PEI government appointment to distribute monetary relief for poor people to buy seed; an 1863 letter from James Durant to his parents, notifying them of his safe arrival in Falmouth; an 1864 letter of condolence from Hannah B. Simmons to Mrs. Durrant [sic]; and a 1869 letter from R. Reddin to J.C. Durant asking that Durant bring to his trial a witness who can confirm Durant's date of birth. There are two letters from Septimus Durant of Castlemain to his mother, one explaining how the bank manager had defrauded him (1860) and another newsy letter of current events (1868). A 1935 letter from Geo. N. Somers, pastor of Margate United Church, confirms the date of birth of Lottie Armenia Durant, while another 1869 letter from John Yeo to Mrs. Durant confirms a package can be shipped to England on his vessel. Also included in the collection is an 1864 store ledger statement for Samuel Durant. Other correspondence (2004, 2005) discusses the collection of letters.

The photograph shows King George VI and Queen Elizabeth outside of Province House in Charlottetown during their visit to Prince Edward Island on 14 June 1939. The King and Queen can be seen shaking hands with a group of war veterans. The man shaking the Queen's hand in the photograph is Nicholas Murphy. In 1939 King George VI of England and his wife Queen Elizabeth made a month-long tour of Canada. They set sail for Canada on 6 May and travelled for nine days across the Atlantic Ocean. The King and Queen's first stop in Canada was Quebec City. On 14 June 1939, near the end of their tour, the royal couple visited Charlottetown, PEI.

This work provides a history of the Latin American Mission Program (LAMP) which was established by the Diocese of Charlottetown in Prince Edward Island in 1968. The publication also includes personal reminiscences and stories of 19 Islanders who traveled to the Caribbean and Central America as missionaries with LAMP.

Ronald Bryden Papers

The collection consists of the papers of Ronald Bryden and cover a wide range of his professional life, including scripts co-written by Bryden when he was an undergraduate at Trinity College, University of Toronto, through to his published work as a journalist and up through the period when he was director of the Graduate Centre for Study of Drama at the University of Toronto.

Collection consists of two sets of oral history projects prepared by Ann McKerlie, a student under the supervision of Professor Patricia Skidmore as part of an oral history course at Brescia University College, a women's college located in London, Ontario. The projects pertain to oral history interviews with five female judges: Justice Lucy Glenn, Justice Katie McGowan, Justice Helen Rady, Justice Lynda Templeton, and Justice Mary Marshman. Included with each interview is a letter of introduction, a set of interview questions, full or partial transcripts of the interview, indexes, a release form, and a thank you letter. Each set of interviews includes an outline of the interviewer's comments, a time log, a bibliography, an essay, and audio cassettes containing recordings of the interviews. The second set of interviews also includes a research paper by Ann McKerlie entitled "Gender and the bench: women judges in the Ontario provincial and superior courts".

It also includes the Coqualeetza Residential School Commencement Annual from June 1929, maps of Port Edward and the surrounding area, the original plan for Prince Edward from 1908, and a map of Clayoquot Sound.

This fonds consists of correspondence, photographs, photo albums, genealogical material, clippings, school notebooks and other material collected by Kathleen Ready McIver and belonging to members of the family of James A. and Annie M. Ready. A large portion of this fonds is related to Joseph Ready's time as a Pilot Officer in the Royal Air Force during World War II and his correspondence with his sisters Mary Ready and Kathleen (Ready) MacIver. The fonds has been divided into two series: Ready family textual records and Ready family photographs.
