Montague Women's Institute fonds

The fonds consists of minutes of the Montague Women's Institute spanning the years 1916-2000, as well as an account book dated 1990-2000. The minutes include accounts of the regular monthly meetings as well as some fincial information, membership lists, and names of executive officers. The 1990-2000 minute book also contains a colour photograph (dated December 1996) taped to the inside front cover. This is not a complete set of minute books and there are some gaps in coverage. The fonds also contains an undated book of recipes and a file of miscellaneous papers which include a 1934 Women's Institute Handbook, a 1932 Montague Women's Institute annual report, a history of Montague (dated 1972), and a short history (two paragraphs) about the Montague Baptist Church.

William McDonald letterbook

One letterbook belonging to William McDonald of Georgetown, Prince Edward Island. The letterbook contains handwritten copies of the correspondence sent by Mr. McDonald in his role as Superintendent of Public Works for King's County. Repairs to roads, buildings, wharves, and bridges are mentioned in the letters. In 1891, the letterbook was used as a scrapbook, so newspaper articles and other miscellanea from that year are pasted over top of about three-quarters of the pages. The letterbook is in very poor condition, with significant water damage.

Women's Christian Temperance Union fonds

The fonds consists of the minutes of the Women's Christian Temperance Union in Charlottetown for the period 1966-1971. A couple of membership lists are also included in the minute book.

The fonds consists of two photographs of paintings: the first of Colonel Thomas Dawson in military uniform and the second of his wife, Frances (Tate) Dawson. The paintings are undated and the artists unknown. The fonds also contains a two-page genealogy chart outlining some descendants of Colonel Thomas and Frances Dawson.

"Turret Bell" crew photograph : 1906

The collection consists of one photograph of the original crew of the whaleback steamer "Turret Bell", ashore at Cable Head, Prince Edward Island, in 1906. The photographer is unknown and the individuals in the photograph are unidentified.

The ship "Turret Bell" was launched from Newcastle-on-Tyne, England in 1894. On 2 November 1906 the ship was blown off course and onto rocks off Cable Head, Prince Edward Island. The ship was a local viewing attraction for three years, until it was salvaged on 31 July 1909. The ship was towed to Charlottetown, then to Quebec for repairs, after which she returned to her work in coastal shipping and trading.

This fonds contains six minute books of the Bellevue Women's Institute covering the dates 1927 to 1977. The minute books contain membership lists, annual reports, lists of officers, and roll call as well as some financial records.

This fonds consists of two minute books of the North Lake Women's Institute (1957-1963 and 1974-1977) and one file folder containing miscellaneous documents pertaining to the organization of the group, including financial information and two annual reports for 1975 and 1976.

Gordon Stewart collection

This collection consists of an unidentified Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, store ledger (1857-1858) and three photographs of the buildings at the corner of Kent and Queen Streets (ca. 1880-1890). The merchandise recorded in the Charlottetown store ledger was mainly loaves, molasses, flour, sugar, onions, tea, eggs and matches. Regular customers of the store included W. H. Pope, T. H. Haviland, Admiral Bayfield, Doctor Stratton and Gov. Daly. All three of the photographs include some part of the A. N. Large business located on the corner of Kent and Queen Streets. Some individuals in the photographs are identified.

This collection includes records related to the successful nomination of Carl Frederick Burke to Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame. Mr. Burke was best known for founding Maritime Central Airways of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Material includes correspondence (1981-1982, 1983, 1986, 1988) and additional background information (1943-1982) collected for the nomination such as newspaper clippings, biographical notes, one photograph, and draft nomination submissions. The collection also includes planning materials for the 1991 50th reunion of Maritime Central Airways. These reunion records (1941-1991) include correspondence, reunion information, list of registrants, mailing lists, two MCA baggage stickers, some financial records, and newspaper clippings.
