Wallace MacDonald fonds

The fonds consists of one photograph album containing 23 images of the loading of potatoes at the ports of Georgetown, Victoria, and Summerside, Prince Edward Island and at Halifax, Nova Scotia. The images appear to document the early use of conveyors to load the vessels although a couple of images are of the use of slings.

Walter Noonan fonds

The fonds consists of four audiocassettes recorded by Walter Noonan in 1986 and 1990. They contain genealogical information about the Noonan family in general and Walter's immediate family, as well as reminiscences of his childhood, youth, marriage, and later years. Individuals and families of Richmond are remembered along with descriptions of social occasions, sports (hockey and baseball in particular), agricultural equipment and activities, and Walter's personal experiences with alcohol. Railroad activities and winter conditions occupy a good deal of one tape. The major portion of the recollections are from the 1920s and 30s.

The fonds consists of a mixture of the personal and public papers of the late Premier, Walter R. Shaw. Original order as evidenced by file folder titles was maintained; where papers were loose or otherwise unidentifiable as to source, an attempt has been made to fit them into the existing arrangement or to create new titles. The following nine series, arranged chronologically by W.R. Shaw's personal and public activities and by media have emerged: personal papers; civil service career; Premier's papers, Leader of the Opposition files; Legislative Assembly records; desk diaries; Sound recordings; photographic materials; and scrapbooks.

Shaw, Walter Russell

This collection consists of one photograph of Walter Shaw (1887-1981) at 20 years of age, ca. 1907.

Walter Russell Shaw was born in West River, Prince Edward Island, on 20 December 1887, the son of Alexander Crawford Shaw and Isobel Maynard. He received his education at St. Catherine's School, Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown, Nova Scotia Agricultural College, and the Agricultural College in Guelph, Ontario. On June 1, 1921, he married Margaret MacKenzie with whom he had two daughters and one son.

From 1914 to 1954 (with the exception of the years 1919 to 1922) W. R. Shaw was employed by the P.E.I. Department of Agriculture as district representative, livestock superintendent and Deputy Minister. The latter position he held for 20 years. He was named leader of the Progressive Conservative Party in September of 1957. At the age of 71, he fought the general election of 1959 carrying 22 out of a possible 30 seats, including his own in 1st Queens. He served as Premier of Prince Edward Island from 1959 to 1966. Personally undefeated in the election of 1966 which swept his party from power, he continued as leader of the opposition in the Legislative Assembly until 1972 when he retired from politics. Walter Shaw died on 28 May 1981 at the age of 93.

Warburton, Longworth family fonds

The fonds contains legal papers and family correspondence of both families, as well as political speeches and essays by A. B. Warburton. It also contains biographical information, loose photographs, one photograph album, and over 440 digital images relating to the Warburton and Longworth families. Some of the photographs include social and sporting events in which the families participated. The fonds has been divided into the following series:

The fonds consists of 30 copy prints which were copied from three photograph albums containing Warren, Houston, and Dickieson family images. The images are identified and some are dated. Photocopies of the images, along with some brief notations made by family members, can also be found in the fonds.

Weeks family (Fredericton) fonds

Weir family collection

The collection consists of three photographs of John Weir and others. One photograph is of John Weir as part of a crew of workers building or repairing a section of the railway at Tracadie Cross possibly in the 1920s. Elmer MacDonald is also identified as being a member of the crew. The other photographs include one of a group from the Tracadie area including John J. Weir and his wife Mary MacDonald and the other is of John and Mary's son, Joseph James. In this photograph a young Joseph James has a dog hitched to a small cart.
