Charles Rubidge fonds

The fonds consists of original documents relating to Captain Charles Rubidge. The fonds includes: certificates and papers relating to Captain Rubidge's service in the Royal Navy (1801-1841); assorted correspondence and documents relating to Rubidge's service as land agent for Irish settlement in the Peterborough area, including a letter to Sir Francis Bond Head, where Rubidge indicates that he, "...has been engaged to undertake the charge and superintendence of a considerable number of families to be sent...to the Newcastle District.." (1839), a letter from Peter Robinson at York, where Robinson confirms that he "communicated to His Excellency the Lt. Gov. your [Rubidge's] acceptance of the situation of Agent ot reside at Peterborough for the purpose of Superintending the settlement of Emigrants...", (1831), a document outlining details an auction of Town Lots in Peterborough, a parchment land grant with seal, granting 200 acres of land on lot 30, concession 11, Otonabee Township to Captain Rubidge (1819); also personal papers and household accounts relating Rubidge's life and family including a sketch book by Mary Rubidge with a sketch of "The Beehive", Verulam (1862); various financial records relating to Captain Rubidge and John Rubidge; "Autobiographical Sketch" written by Rubidge (1870); a calling card that belonged to Charles Rubidge, (ca.1870); carte-de-visite studio photograph of Captain Charles Rubidge. The studio portrait taken by R.D. Ewing, shows Rubidge seated beside a table, wearing a suit with a military medal pinned to the breast pocket.

Fonds consists of a sketchbook containing several fine pen/ink, pencil and watercolour sketches of Peterborough and area, rendered in the early 1890's by Charles Wallis Forbes. Sketches include: a pen/ink and watercolour sketch of the Grand Trunk Railway Swing Bridge; a sketch of 57th Regiment - Peterborough Rangers at Toronto (July 1890); River Otonabee in winter; a pioneer man with musket in front of a log cabin; portrait a bearded man (1891); unfinished pencil sketch of a train derailment; front view of #4 steam locomotive; a winter view of a steam locomotive at the Peterborough Railway Station, (January 4, 1893); watercolour sketch of the steamship S.S. Mohawk (February 1893); pen/ink detail of Spanish cathedral at Gibraltar; sketch of a woman reclining on a sofa; watercolour and pen/ink "original sketch of grandfather Forbes" in Royal Navy dress uniform; ink sketch of John L. The fonds consists of records, photographs and plans relating to the construction of the Citizen's War Memorial and Cenotaph. Allward and son Hugh L. Allward (site supervisor); pamphlets; receipts; 2 blueprints for sections of bronze sculpture; specifications and contract between Allward and committee; some financial records including summary of expenditures (1921-1927).

Daniel Macdonald fonds

David Rogers fonds

The fonds consists of photographs, some correspondence, clippings and ephemera related to Lt. Commander David Rogers, RCNVR, and his work in Combined Operations during World War Two. Of particular note is a series of black and white snapshots of the 2nd flotilla (262nd RN) preparing for the D-Day invasion (Operation Overlord) at Portsmouth Naval Yard, crossing the English Channel and finally at the Normandy Beaches (June 1944); notebook maintained by David B. Rogers, RCNVR, starting with his stay on the H.M.C.S. "Quebec" (K-242) used for briefings, training and preparations for D-Day landing. The notebook contains instructional data on Luftwaffe aircraft, pencil recon drawings of German bombers, notes listing battle field first aid instructions, 'pep talk' notes, personnel lists for the 80th Canadian LCM (D-Day landing craft).

Denne family fonds

Fonds consists of 168 hand-tinted, framed photographic prints collected by T.H.G Denne that document Peterborough and area from the 1850's to the early 20th century. Fonds also includes four photograph albums containing the original prints (also hand-tinted) plus several additional prints and negatives. Fonds also includes a notebook of T.H.G. Denne containing notes about each photograph comprising the collection (1936); personal correspondence; an original map on linen of Peterborough based on Richard Birdsall's plan (dated 1823); scrapbook filled with clippings that relate to many aspects of local history and the Denne family; a visitors register to the Denne cottage, made of cedar bark and titled "Chemong Park" (1904); carte-de-visite and tintype photographs of Denne family members including: Henry Denne, Agnes Denne, Roland and T.H.G. Denne.

Fonds consists of Dennistoun family papers including: James Frederick Dennistoun's law diplomas from the Law Society of Upper Canada (1859, 1860); an auction catalogue to the sale of contents of Inverlea - the family home of Judge Robert Dennistoun in Peterborough (ca. 1888); assorted personal correspondence; notes relating to the Dennistoun, Beck, Brown and Boulton families, clippings related to a banquet held for Robert M. Dennistoun. Fonds also includes extensive business and legal records generated by Judge Robert Dennistoun, James Frederick Dennistoun and Robert Maxwell Dennistoun, such as deeds, mortgages, wills and estate papers, building specifications, leases, business correspondence).

Doctor Russell Kneale Magee fonds

Fonds consists of correspondence, photographs, diaries, reports, journal reprints and other material covering the professional and personal life of Doctor Russell Kneale Magee and to some extent, his wife Doctor Agnes King Moffat (1905-1998). Included in the fonds are papers documenting Dr Magee's medical career in the Canadian Army during World War Two, war surgery, Dr Magee's studies of experimental surgical techniques including the Kuntscher Pin and work with German POW's (1942-1946); the Peterborough Clinic (1936-1972); professional activities and contacts with medical colleagues; family and social activities; Dr Magee's diaries for the years 1945-1972 inclusive.
